Why Gelato?
Gelato is an Italian frozen dessert made out of milk, sugar, and fresh fruits. Due to its fantastic taste, natural and fresh ingredients, and its nutrition, gelato has a high popularity. It is not correct to call gelato, Italian Ice-cream. Gelato might have many similarities to ice-cream, but gelato’s ingredients, production method, intense flavor and taste, freshness, the temperature at which it’s served at, creamy texture, and the low amount of air whipped into it, is the difference compared to ice-cream. Gelato is a frozen dessert with about 5-8% fat content, but ice-cream on the other side has between 10-20% fat content. Since there is less air whipped into gelato, and the temperature at which the dessert is served is higher compared to ice-cream, gelato is extremely flavorful. Gelato has a more cohesive and packed texture than ice-cream due to the low amount of air whipped into gelato. Ice-cream has about 50% air whipped into the product, but gelato has only about 30%, so you will get more of the fresh ingredients in a spoon of gelato. It is good to note that the temperature at which gelato is served compared to ice-cream is higher. The serving temperature of gelato is about 7° Fahrenheit (-14° Celsius), compared to ice-cream at about -4° Fahrenheit (-20° Celsius), which gives you a more flavorful taste. Even though gelato has a very creamy and delicate texture, it contains about 50% less fat relative to the amount of fat in ice-cream, so gelato has fewer calories per serving than ice-cream.
